    ZipLock Omelet.

Filed under: Misc — digital @ 10:09 pm

I got this through an email chain letter from a friend. Thought it was pretty sweet. I have not actually tried it yet. I will prolly post an update once I have tried it. Here goes:

This works great!!! Good for when all your family is together. The best part is that no one has to wait for their special omelet!!!

Have guests write their name on a quart-size Ziploc freezer bag with permanent marker.

Crack 2 eggs (large or extra-large) into the bag (not more than 2) shake to combine them.

Put out a variety of ingredients such as: cheeses, ham, onion, green pepper, tomato, hash browns, salsa, etc.

Each guest adds prepared ingredients of choice to their bag and shake.

Make sure to get the air out of the bag and zip it up.

Place the bags into rolling, boiling water for exactly 13 minutes.

You can usually cook 6-8 omelets in a large pot. For more, make another pot of boiling water.

Open the bags and the omelet will roll out easily. Be prepared for everyone to be amazed.

Nice to serve with fresh fruit and coffee cake; everyone gets involved in the process and a great conversation piece.

Maaaaaaaaaan … looks like folks are just linking the images from here. That’s pretty shitty.

Fyi – Girl guides / scouts have been doing this for decades – popularly known as “milk bag scrambled eggs” in southern ontario.

Interesting. Regardless of it’s origin, it’s a sweet idea. I’ve heard some folks being concerned about ‘bad shit’ leaching out of the plastic in the bags. I am not concerned about that.

Yeah! What’s to worry? My daughter’s boyfriend is toe-two-lee into Zapping food in plastic containers. He has developed a full cup size just since I first met him. But, what the hey!? I think that big ol’lip full-o Copenhagen is going to clear out everything between his nasal passages and his sternum long before the plastic can do him any harm.

Why no more than 2 eggs? What if I am really hungry? Can I use a bigger bag and more eggs? Does the third egg disrupt the space time continuum or just your cholesterol?

    8. digital says:

I plan on investigating that. Maybe it throws the timing off if you have more than that per ‘unit’?

Does getting all the air out before sealing the bag prevent making a flat omelet as opposed to the “rolled look” you have in your pictures?

Enjoy your cancer eggs, morons! Judging by the liver spots on that person’s hands, they are old and will die soon anyway. As for me, no molten plastics in my omelette thank you very much, just my trusty old cast iron skillet and plenty of BUTTER :) For those of you who don’t bother to read the link, the jist of it is this: the ziploc is made of plastics that start to break down at 195F, water boils at 212F (at sea level). Yummy! Carcinogenic! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHA, stupid lazy American fat-asses!!!!!! DIE DIE DIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PS: the only way this might be safe is if you’re making your lazy-omlette on top of a 10,000′ mountain, where water boils at 193F but my guess is your powered wheelchair can’t get you there :)

I’m not sure about getting the air out having anything to do with the shape of it. I doubt it. I have not tried it myself just yet.

‘Enjoy your cancer eggs morons…. iron skillet with plenty of butter”
      LMAO
I think YOU’RE the MORON! Without getting into the plastic and iron (and I use iron skillets myself, so
do not have anything against them), lets say all things being equal, you are cooking your eggs with ‘plenty of butter’ and the ziplock bag ‘morons’ use no butter. Ok, they get cancer and IF they die from it, they die a quick and painful death. But YOU have either a heart attack or a stroke from the butter (not to mention to the EGGS) and IF you die from that it will most likely be a LONG DRAWN OUT death which is just as painful as the cancer, except, well they can still go to the toilet, feed themselves, etc for most of the time, but you on the other hand probably cannot. IF you don’t don’t die from it then you are looking forward to a life of somewhere between what I mentioned above as death from heart attack or stroke and being able to function normally for maybe several years as long as you take your meds everyday, stick to a strict diet that does not include eggs or butter.. or anything that tastes good, and don’t have sex… that is if you EVEN STILL CAN!!!
      hahahaha… dumbass!

    18. idkfa says:

All things being equal you should not eat anything that will kill you. Cholesterol is manageable but it’s more of a pain to manage cancer. Whatever you want to believe, even Ziploc says not to boil their bags for this very reason. Find a sturdier bag and you’re set but don’t be ignorant on the internet.

    19. digital says:

      Yeah, I decided against it.

Ziploc makes these bags that are intended for use in a crock pot. I suspect they would handle it, but they do not seal.
