Aron’s first sunrise.
This was written by my wife a few months ago. I just stumbled upon it.
Here goes:
So Aron and I were walking on the beach yesterday… I asked him if knew that before the sun got high up in the sky, it peaked up from behind the ocean very early in the morning. He said, of course, that he did not. I told him that when the sun does that, the sky turns many colors – orange, purple, red, pink… and then the sun itself would pop up. I asked him if he’d like to watch the sun come up with me the next morning… he said that he did.
So I put baby Jason down about 6:15 this morning and peaked out our window and saw a tiny band of pink-ish red in the sky. I wake Aron up and asked him if he still wanted to see the sunrise with Mama. He nodded his head ‘yes.’ I got him a chocolate milk out of our fridge (it’s a tiny fridge in our hotel room, but big enough for some white milk and chocolate milk and purple milk for Aron, and a Coke for Emily and a Diet Coke for Mama and to keep baby Jason’s teething rings cold) and grabbed a Diet Coke for me. I moved 2 chairs together on the balcony to form a make-shift bed, grabbed the bedspread off of our bed and a pillow. I picked Aron up and carried him out and got us bundled up warm under the bedspread. It wasn’t that cold out, but there was a cool breeze blowing. I pointed out the red band coming up over the horizon. Aron acknowledged it and promptly put his head on my shoulder and went to sleep. He’s just 3, after all. So I held my silent cherub (they’re all cherubs when they’re sleeping, aren’t they?) and watched the sunrise. I had an impulse to go inside and get the camera, but some memories are best left as that – memories. It was quiet on the beach this morning – one man combing the beach looking for driftwood… a cat looking for food. At one point, Aron giggled in his sleep – something he did often as a baby, but much less often as a toddler and now a preschooler. I guess he felt as content in the moment as I did. As sunrises go, it wasn’t that spectacular. It was very cloudy on the horizon and hazy in general. But for me, it was the best sunrise I’ve ever seen.
